Waste Sorting and Separation

After receiving organic waste, Mafaeco carries out the critical stage of sorting and separation to ensure the quality of the final compost and protect the environment.

In this process, the waste undergoes careful analysis and separation to remove undesirable materials, ensuring that only organic matter proceeds to composting.

  1. Separation of Organic and Inorganic Materials

During sorting, waste is classified based on its origin and composition. Organic materials—such as food scraps, tree trimmings, and animal manure—are separated from inorganic waste, which does not biodegrade. Items like plastics, glass, metals, and other non-compostable waste are identified and properly disposed of or sent for recycling when possible.

  1. Removal of Contaminants

This stage also involves removing physical contaminants, such as plastic bags, metal utensils, packaging, stones, and other materials that, if mixed into the compost, could compromise its quality and safety. The presence of these contaminants can harm both the biological composting process and the value of the final product.

Sorting is performed manually and, when necessary, with the support of specialized equipment to ensure maximum efficiency and safety. This care is essential to produce clean, nutrient-rich, and impurity-free organic compost, ready for safe use in agriculture, gardening, and soil restoration.
